Bargara is one of the fastest growing leisure destinations on the coast of Queensland. It is situated about 10 kilometers to the east of Bundaberg which is about 4.5 hours drive north from Brisbane. Over the last ten years or so, Bargara has become a sought after holiday destination. It is right on the beachfront and there are two excellent golf courses in the area. Bargara is a small coastal resort town but big enough to host a great hotel, several restaurants, take away stores and retail outlets. It is also a place where Bundaberg families come to for a day at the beach. It is really easy to get to as you can fly to Bundaberg by Qantaslink and then hire a car for the duration of your stay. The Bargara hinterland is really interesting and if you come during the turtle nesting season you can watch the turtles come ashore at night and lay their eggs or even be present as the baby hatchlings dig their way out of the sand and make their way to the ocean to start their lives. The best place to see this is at the Mon repos Turtle rookery where there are organized tours with the Dept of Environment and Heritage.
Lady Musgrave Island lies offshore and the tour company will pick up customers from Bargara and take you on a sensational day trip to the Great Barrier Reef. Every one is catered for in accommodation as there is a great caravan park, motels and modern apartment style accommodation. There have been a number of resort style developments done along the beachfront over the past few years and the standard is really high. Coral Cove resort also has an 18 hole golf course so if you are a golfer this is an excellent place to stay. There are also many interesting places to spend some time in nearby Bundaberg. The Bundaberg Rum factory has regular tours, Schmieders Cooperage is very interesting and a little further away at Appletree Creek is the Flying High bird sanctuary and the Snakes Alive reptile display.
If you are looking for somewhere new to take the family for a holiday or you are just looking for a short break away from work, then come and spend a little time in Bargara for your next time away.
